How do you make sure you are Covid safe?
Elmes Homecare has always had robust infection control policies and an infection control lead in place, however since February 2020 when the pandemic hit Europe, we have taken extra steps to upgrade the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) carers use and give extra training on infection control to all our staff . We have never, ever run short of PPE, right through the pandemic. We aggressively inventory control our PPE supplies and ensure we re-order in good time to never be short of PPE for our care teams.
We stringently follow National Health England infection control guidelines on appropriate PPE usage. Our care professionals wear:
- Fluid repellent surgical type IIR facemasks for the duration of all calls
- Disposable gloves and aprons – on all calls and changed regularly through the call / after each task
- Our carers wear eye protection when delivering direct personal care where there may be a risk of contact with body fluids.
PPE alone is not sufficient protection against the Covid or any virus, so our practises also include:
- Staying away from work when ill
- Rigorous hand hygiene protocols , including handwashing before donning and following removal of PPE
- More frequent cleaning
